Volunteer Spotlight: The unsung hero at Friends of Ruby Home.

Opening a transitional house during the pandemic really speaks to the dedication and tenacity of all involved.

Friends of Ruby wants to spotlight one of our most dedicated volunteers, with whom, the house would not have been running without!

“While keeping busy and loving retirement, I was unfulfilled and needed to give back more to society…Then the stars aligned!… It turned out that the help needed matched my skills! I have thoroughly enjoyed my involvement and am thrilled and proud to be associated with Friends of Ruby! “

Sue started volunteering with Friends of Ruby on November 19, 2020 and has already logged over 250 hours with us!

“I retired in 2012 after 32 years with IBM Canada.  While keeping busy and loving retirement, I was unfulfilled and needed to give back more to society.  At the same time, through a dear friend, I was aware of the plans for Friends of Ruby Home and regularly kept up with it’s development progress.

Then the stars aligned!  COVID-19 hit and forced me to stay in Canada over the winter with nothing to do.  Friends of Ruby Home was about to open and needed help in the final stages.  It turned out that the help needed matched my skills!   I have thoroughly enjoyed my involvement and am thrilled and proud to be associated with Friends of Ruby! “

Sue wore many hats during her volunteering: from supplying the house with essential items and meals, to supporting the teams with documentations – she truly continues to go above and beyond!

We are lucky to have volunteers like Sue continue to support Friends of Ruby with their precious time, energy, and positive spirit. You truly are making a difference.
