Who We Are

Friends of Ruby is a registered charity dedicated to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and two-spirit youth (aged 16-29) through counselling, social services and housing. Founded as Egale Youth Services in 2014, we became an independent entity in 2019. To date we have supported more than 1,000 youth and prevented over 470 mental health crises. At the Friends of Ruby Home and drop-in space, we offer counselling and a variety of programs and support groups, including dedicated spaces for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) youth.

Available positions

Communications Coordinator

The Communications Coordinator will play an integral role in executing the Friends of Ruby marketing and communications plan. You will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Officer and the Director of Development and Marketing to support the creation and execution of digital marketing and communication efforts for Friends of Ruby’s programs and initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating content for the social media channels as well as the website, draft press releases and stories, and assist with developing marketing strategies to promote the program to increase community engagement.

Development Coordinator

As a Development Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting a broad range of administrative activities pertaining to the fundraising priorities and the successful operations of our office. You will be supporting the Development Officer, Grants and Director of Development and Marketing in the coordination of tasks for special projects, including the implementation and stewardship of complex major and principal gifts, donor database maintenance, supporting grant research, and more.

Housing Manager

The Manager will provide support, engagement and case management services with an interdisciplinary team to high-risk LGBTQI2S youth living in the Friends of Ruby’s transitional House,  and Drop-In Centre, while working collaboratively with other health and human service providers, and with the City of Toronto Shelter & Housing office.

Clinical Counsellor

We are looking for a talented clinician who identifies as a member of the LGBTQI2S community to provide mental health and counselling support to LGTQI2S youth including those with intersectional identities of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC). The Clinical Counselor will provide single session and short-term counselling will plan and facilitate clinical groups and crisis support.

Training and Development Coordinator

The Training and Development Coordinator will be the point of contact for training and development related inquiries as well as supporting the delivery of training and development programs within Friends of Ruby.  This includes planning, coordinating, directing training and development programs, maintaining training, and compiling reports and statistics. The Training and Development Coordinator will support organizational growth and increase employee productivity through the long-term improvement of employees’ skills, enabling them to fulfil their potential within the organization, while staying current with changing technologies.

Youth Program Worker – 6 Month Contract

The Youth Program Worker will provide supports in our drop-in by interacting and facilitating respectful communication among the participants and responding to escalating situations when needed. The Youth Program Worker develops, implements, and coordinates service delivery through engagement activities for LGBTQI2S youth, both individually through service plans and within a group setting, that can be done online and in person. They will also support and help with our daily food program, perform reception duties, set up the space before groups, clean up after groups, do purchasing when required and ensure covid-19 protocols are in place and being followed, ensure the supportive drop-in space runs in a safe and organized way.

Contingency Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Business Operations, the Contingency Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the health and safety, emergency and day-to-day operational needs to promote a safe work and living environment for staff and youth. This includes liaising with internal and external stakeholders to keep apprised of current legislation, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols, and stakeholder input to create and implement contingency and emergency plans.
