Who We Are
Friends of Ruby is a registered charity dedicated to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and two-spirit youth (aged 16-29) through counselling, social services and housing. Founded as Egale Youth Services in 2014, we became an independent entity in 2019. To date we have supported more than 1,000 youth and prevented over 470 mental health crises. At the Friends of Ruby Home and drop-in space, we offer counselling and a variety of programs and support groups, including dedicated spaces for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) youth.

We are looking for a talented clinician who identifies as a member of the LGBTQI2S community to provide mental health and counselling support to LGTQI2S youth including those with intersectional identities of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC). The Clinical Counselor will provide single session and short-term counselling, will plan and facilitate clinical groups and crisis support.
The Drop In Supervisor will supervise staff and coordinate activities in the Drop In, interact and facilitate respectful communication among the participants, respond to escalating situations when needed, ensure the supportive drop-in space runs in a safe and organized way, liaise with partner organizations for program development, manage and enhance service delivery.
Food Access Coordinator
The Food Access Coordinator will coordinate the food programming at the Friends of Ruby Home, manage the food vendors, catering and the food budget. This role will be responsible for meals planning and preparation, coordination of community meals with residents, skills training and conducting health promotion activities related to food access, food security and healthy eating for the residents of the Home.
Residential Housing Worker
The Residential Housing Worker will engage and provide day to day support to the youth living at the Friends of Ruby’s Home. The responsibilities include providing support to the residents by interacting and facilitating respectful communication with and among the youth and responding to escalating situations if needed. Assist youth in building personal, social and life skills to enable independent living, support the successful transition to long-term housing and assist to maintain stable housing. Work collaboratively with the Case Workers to support the residents with their care plans and accessing the supports they need to move towards independent living. Help with our daily food program and help residents with upkeeping of the space.
Community Engagement Coordinator
This role involves building connection with the community surrounding Friends of Ruby spaces, responding to and addressing community concerns, facilitating Community Liason Committees, providing updates, engaging community members as volunteers or in specific activities at Friends of Ruby’s Transitional House and Drop In.
Volunteers are an essential part of our organization and support staff and youth in different capacities.
Friends of Ruby supports LGBTQI2S youth (aged 16-29) through mental health services, social services and housing. Our approach is comprehensive, involving mind, body and community – supporting youth wherever they are on their personal journey.
When you give to Friends of Ruby, you directly support essential services for LGBTQI2S youth. We provide meals, groceries, community programming, practical supports and mental health services.
